New Brunswick has decided not to go forward with plans for enhanced driver's licences given that the cost to citizens would be almost as much as a passport. (Telegraph-Journal, March 31, 2009). Nova Scotia is reported to be reconsidering now that New Brunswick is no longer going forward. (Times & Transcript, April 1, 2009) PEI is also reported to have canceled their plans for an EDL, also citing cost. (The Guardian (Charlottetown), April 4, 2009, not available online).

Passports are better than enhanced licences
Stewart Trew of the Council of Candians had a letter published regarding passports being a better alternative to EDLs. His letter commends New Brunswick for dropping EDLs See: http://timestranscript.canadaeast.com/opinion/article/633467
